Crash and Burn

Crash and Burn

I had a restless night. I couldn’t fall asleep to start with, just twisting and turning in bed while my breathing took more effort than it should have. A few bathroom trips later, I finally drifted off sometime past midnight, and it took real work to get there. I woke up to my daughter calling out a bye on her way out the door, and the moment I opened my eyes I knew something was off. My breathing was harder, and I felt weak and tired.

When I walked out of the room, my wife said I looked strikingly thin, like I’d lost several kilos overnight. So I got on the scale. Sure enough, I’d dropped from 77 to 75. My blood pressure came in slightly below normal too.

I booked another thyroid test, and the phlebotomist showed up within ten minutes, drew blood, and left. I dragged myself together to get ready for a hectic day: a mountain of work and a few critical calls waiting. Unenthusiastically, I canceled some interviews. The second half of my day is going to be brutal, but at least I get to rest through the first.

I had a heavy breakfast and I’m back in bed now, nursing a sniffle, chewing cloves, drinking ginger turmeric tea. My sister called in the middle of all this. She was checking whether things are sorted between the two of us, since she’s planning a trip to a Ganesh temple, and apparently that only happens once the ledger’s clean. 😂

Her go-to answer for every problem in life is to outsource it to god, and once things work out, throw a payday at him. Sounds less like divine intervention and more like a cartel. I told her not to hold back on my account. Always jump at the chance to get crushed between sweaty strangers in a crowd, breathing in everyone else’s exhale, while a handful of self-appointed caretakers of god run the show. Again, cartel behavior if you ask me.

Now I’m just waiting on my reports, and I’ll probably see a doctor tomorrow if nothing changes. My oxygen saturation is fine, but I’m lethargic, my head’s throbbing a little, and breathing still takes real effort. AI has been completely useless through all of this. I’m clearly failing at playing my own doctor, so I’ll pause here.

Meanwhile, I spent the whole weekend untangling a swirl of thoughts in my head. More on that later. Office calls start in five minutes.
